Abstract

This article analyzes the main changes occurred in the Brazilian copyright law since the publication on 20 February 1998 of Law 9,610, which consolidated the Copyright and Related Rights in Brazil, arising after a long legislative process of almost 20 years. Criticism of the country's Copyright Act began soon after its release. It will analyze here the discussions in Brazilian civil society since 2005 that culminated in the preparation of a preliminary draft reform of the Brazilian Copyright Law, as well as their motivations for reviewing and highlighting the partial legislative changes that have already occurred.
