Abstract

The article proposes to identify, through the methodology of prospecting filings and publications in national and international intellectual property registration databases, the products directed at the tourism sector, in its different segments, which in the 20th and 21st centuries have emerged as instruments of customisation and competitive potential from the perspective of the creative economy. The discussion opens with the INPI and the legislation it refers to — Law No. 9,279/96, Law No. 9,610/98, Law No. 5,648/70, the Paris Convention and TRIPS — and articulates the notions of creative economy, creative cities and smart cities. The search is carried out in the INPI, WIPO and Espacenet databases, using the term “tourism” as the entry, and the results are described and distributed by segment: travel agencies, hotels, transport, information systems and marketing. The text follows the chronology of the filings, from the tourism payment booklets of the 1970s to the integrated tourism information and negotiation systems of the 2000s. It concludes that the refinement of ideas, whether as invention or as utility model, has served to improve the quality of the tourism offer, above all in the use of communication and remote guidance technologies.
