First volume of a textbook on Brazilian business law, expressly addressed to law students and teachers and connected to the disciplines that revolve around the business enterprise. The work traces the historical formation of commercial law from the exchange of surpluses in the first settled societies, through pharaonic Egypt, the commercial provisions of the Code of Hammurabi, Roman law and its compilations, the trade of the eastern routes, the medieval craft guilds and the French and German commercial codifications of the nineteenth century, up to the treatment of the subject in Brazilian law. The second part deals with commercial registration: its importance, its history in the West and its development in Brazil, the National System of Commercial Registration, the powers, structure and hybrid legal nature of the commercial registries, the protection of the business name, filings and authentications, examinations and decisions, and the auxiliary agents of commerce, together with the statutory duties of the entrepreneur.
